I am pleased to inform the membership that today the Gold Coast City Council approved RetireAustralia’s proposed retirement village development application, with 13 Councillors voting in support of the project and just 2 voting against.
This is a significant milestone and the Club Board and our RetireAustralia partners are delighted that the project has cleared this hurdle.
I would like to thank the membership for their ongoing support for the project and patience with the process to get to this point.
I would also like to acknowledge the support the project has received from Miami Local Councillor, Pauline Young, during the planning for the project.
The development approval conditions will require the design to reduce the number of independent living units in building 1 to further minimise the impact of the development on adjoining owners. RetireAustralia are now progressing with design revisions to meet the council’s conditions.
There are some final hurdles the project needs to pass before RetireAustralia will make payment for the land-lease and move to construction, most important of which is passing the appeal period for submitters. If appeals are made there will be additional time needed to follow due process and understand any impact on the development approval.
In the next 6 weeks we will be in a position to advise members if a suitable development approval has been achieved and provide an update on expected timeframes for the next stage of the project.
