Dear Members,

In May we received news that Gold Coast City Council had approved the Development Application of the RetireAustralia (RA) project which is adjacent to the 10th hole. On the 18th June, the period for lodging objections ended and none were lodged with the Council. RetireAustralia has now confirmed that the terms of the Development Approval are satisfactory and therefore the conditions of the Development Agreement with Burleigh Golf Club (BGC) are now satisfied and the project will proceed.

The approval provided by Council will require some additional planning works to be performed prior to documentation being finalised and, in accordance with the terms of the agreement between RA and BGC, this will delay the payment by RA of the Land Lease Payment to the Club. The payment is now expected to be received in either late September or early October.

The Board, on behalf of members, is now able to progress plans for certain expenditure at the Club and the investment of the surplus funds. The objectives are that the expenditure will result in improved club and course facilities for members and the investment of the surplus funds will provide financial security for the Club well into the future. Over the next few months we will provide information to you on important motions to be considered at this year’s Annual General Meeting. These will address the future security of the invested funds, and replacement of the course irrigation system. We are also preparing information for members on the long overdue replacement of the greenkeepers’ shed facilities and are working in consultation with a golf course architect on plans for a 19th hole.

These upcoming communications will provide you with a good understanding of the Board’s position in addressing these matters, and we trust that you will support these initiatives and priorities.

If you have any questions arising from this information, please take the time to discuss the matter with a Director, the Club’s General Manager, or email the Board via manager@burleighgolfclub.com.au

Regards,

Peter Evans
President – Burleigh Golf Club
