The first round of the Club Championships is on Saturday 11 May and the bookings for the Championship time sheet open at the Office only from 10am on Monday 8 April until 5pm Wednesday 25 April. These Tee Sheets will not be accessible via the KIOSK or INTERNET and must be completed in person during office hours.

The Championship Fee is $50.00 per Player (Pro-pins to be paid separately on the day of play) and must be paid in full prior to acceptance of players’ entries.

The Championships are restricted to:

Amateur Members of Burleigh Golf Club with a Golf Australia Men’s (GAM)) handicap, of the following categories of membership are eligible to contest for the Championship – Life, Senior, Full, Full Conditional, Youth and eligible Junior Members.

Note:    All nominees must have been the member of an eligible member category of BGC for a continuous period of three (3) months prior to the event.

Nomination and Tee Sheets

  • To be eligible for the Championship all players must nominate prior to the start of play of the first round of the Championship. No nominations will be accepted after a player has commenced play in the first round.  Nomination involves the payment of the Championship Fee and the insertion of the players name(s) on the tee sheets for all four (4) rounds;
  • The Tee sheets for the four (4) rounds will be available at the Office only from 10:00am on Monday, 8th April to 5.00pm on Wednesday 25th April 2019 for those persons who wish to play the Championship. These Tee Sheets will not be accessible via the KIOSK or INTERNET and must be completed in person;
  • The Championship Fee must be paid at the office when making the Tee reservation.
  • Entries will NOT be accepted without the full payment of the Championship Entry Fee. If for any reason members cannot take their place in the field no refunds or no free games will be credited;
  • The Tee sheets for the first round will be open to all members wishing to play that daily competition from Friday, 3rd May 2019 via KIOSK at 5.00pm and the INTERNET from 5.30pm. Subsequent rounds will open as per normal, 8 days prior to the date of the round.

Dates of Play

This year’s Championship will be held on the following dates:

Round 1 –              Saturday, 11th May 2019

Round 3 –              Sunday, 19th May 2019

Final Round –         Saturday 25th May 2019

To be eligible the player must be 55 years of age or over as at 11th May 2019.

  1. Arthur Smith Memorial Trophy – 72 hole Nett Overall Champion
  1. 72 Hole Junior Championship
  1. Winner & Runner-up Gross
  2. Winner & Runner-up Nett

NOTE: An individual player may not win more than one Championship trophy or event, however, may win more than one Honour Board event, that is, Club Champion and Veteran Champion.

 

Conditions of Play

Rules

  1. The R&A Rules of Golf Effective January 2019 and the local rules of the Burleigh Golf Club Ltd., will be the rules of play during the Championship.
  2. The Local Rule “Alternative to Stroke and Distance for Lost Ball or Ball Out of Bounds” will not be in effect during the Championship.

Handicaps

  1. A member who is entitled to play in the Club Championship will, for the duration of the Championship, remain on the Daily Handicap as for the first round of the Championship:
  1. For the purpose of establishing grade.
  2. For determining the winner of the Arthur Smith Memorial trophy and 72 hole Grade Nett winners.

Handicap of the day applies for all daily events for each round.

Grades

The Grade divisions used for the Club Championships will be based on the Daily Handicap applicable from the Black Tees and divided as below:

‘A’ Grade                       Up to and including 5

‘A Reserve’ Grade           6 to 12

‘B’ Grade                       13 to 17

‘C’ Grade                       18 and above

Play

Play is to be in groups of four at seven minute intervals.

All play is from the Black markers;

Players must report to the starter 15 minutes prior to hit off time.

The Committee will have the power to select a partner for any player at the appointed time. Competitors not ready to start will automatically be inserted where there is a vacancy or placed at the end of the tee sheet; penalties as per Golf Australia may apply.

Motorised buggies

Motorised buggies are permitted in all events except ‘A’ Grade Gross Championship and ‘A’ Grade Match Play Championships, unless a medical certificate is provided stating that the use of a buggy is required. In addition, “A” Grade members who use Buggies in the Club Championship will not be able to qualify for the “A” Grade Match Play Championships

Ties

In the event of a tie for any grade in Event 1, Veterans’ Gross or Juniors’ Gross a sudden death playoff will commence from the 1st hole through to 18th. All other events will be decided by countback.

Seeding

The top eight (8) players in each Grade will be seeded for the Final round of the championship. Time slots will be reserved for the seeded draw; and

All seeded players must play in seeded time slots, else they will not be eligible to win any event, nor will they be eligible to qualify for the Match Play event without prior approval.

Juniors

The Junior Committee is invited to nominate up to ten (10) juniors to participate in the Championship.

Junior (Full) Members who have represented the Club in Division 1 Pennants have all the booking privileges of Full Members and are not constrained by these Junior conditions.

  1. No more than 2 Juniors are permitted to enter names on the tee sheets in one group of four.
  2. A Junior’s card must be marked by an Adult member.
  3. The Junior Club Committee will have discretionary power to recommend to the Match Committee that special dispensation be given to a Junior member to compete in the Championship other than through the above qualifying criteria.

Disputes and protests

Disputes and protests are to be in writing to the Match Committee not later than 15 minutes after the finish of the round;

Match Play Championship

  1. The top eight in each grade will qualify. Positions will be decided by a count-back if required;
  2. Match Play conditions apply;
  3.  –
    1. 1st (AM) and 2nd (PM) rounds of Match Play on Sunday, 16th June 2019.
    2. Final (36 holes) Match Play on Sunday, 23d June 2019, play to commence at 7.00am.
  4. Motorised buggies are permitted in Grades other than ‘A’ Grade.
  5. Players unavailable for the Match Play Championship must notify the starter no later than immediately after the completion of the final round of the Club Championship.
  6. Players may only qualify for the Match Play of their own grade.

Junior Match Play Championship

  1. The Winner and Runner-up of the 72-hole Junior Gross Championship shall play off in a match play competition, at a date and time to be determined to decide the Junior Match Play Champion.
  2. Positions will be decided by a count-back if required.

Suspensions Suspension of play will be signified by continuous short blasts of an electric hooter.  Players must stop play at once and must not make another stroke until the Match Committee resumes play. When play is suspended mark the place where the balls lies and await further instructions.

Control – The Match Committee will be in charge of the Championship and their decision is final.
